When the Scottish general Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that he will one day become King of Scotland, he is spurred to action by his ambitious wife to take his destiny into his own hands and murder King Duncan, claiming the throne for himself. Though he does so successfully, this action leads Macbeth on a path of guilt, paranoia, and fear as his rule turns more tyrannical and a threat of rebellion looms.
